CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A 36-year old man is in the hospital fighting for his life after he was shot in the chest overnight.

The Corpus Christi Police Department was called out to the Gaslight Apartments on Kostoryz near Gollihar at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday for a family disturbance.

Detectives said the victim was shot by his 20-year old stepson after they had just gotten into an argument. The stepson tried to flee the scene, but was later apprehended at a nearby convenience store.

"He is critical. The subject is critical," said Lt. Robert Alvarado of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "Doctors are optimistic, but he is not out of the woods just yet."

The stepson was arrested and faces a charge of aggravated assault.
