BEEVILLE (Kiii News) -

Weighing in at nine pounds and one and half ounces, Julian Thomas McGruder was the first baby born in 2013 in outlying areas of Corpus Christi.

Julian was born at 10:46 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Spohn Memorial Hospital in Beeville to Ashley De Los Rios and Anthony Thomas McGruder. The young couple said they had been told the baby was due Dec. 29, but started wondering when little Julian did not make it on his due date.

"Yes, I was thinking maybe this is it, and then, I don't know," De Los Rios said. "I was just hoping it was because I was tired of being pregnant."

"Everybody at home is waiting to see him," McGruder said. "I mean the ones that are unable to make it all the way over here. Then I'm going to take her, take him to Corpus to visit her side of the family."

The couple and the new arrival are from Sandia, TX.
