CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It was quite a scare for some Annaville residents Thursday morning when the Corpus Christi Bomb Squad was called out to a liquor store parking lot on Leopard and Starlite.

It happened just before 10 a.m. Police said an officer pulled over the driver of a white truck and noticed what he though was an explosive device. Members from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were called in along with the Corpus Christi Police Department Bomb Squad to investigate.

"Of course officers are trained to look through vehicles for things that can be used as a weapon, and this caught his attention," CCPD Officer Kirk Stowers said. "Specifically what it was, I'm not sure, but it was enough for the device to catch his attention, and to remove the operator from the vehicle to investigate what it was that caught his attention."

Crews were able to successfully remove and dispose of the device. The 57-year old driver of the truck was identified as Johnny James Wilkey. He was arrested for having a hoax bomb, and could face up to a year in jail and a $4,000.
