Firefighters Injured Fighting Overnight Blaze on Lolita Street

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Three Corpus Christi firefighters were injured while battling a stubborn house fire overnight at the 900 block of Lolita.

During the blaze, which broke out around midnight, a firefighter suffered steam burns to his hands, face and shoulders. Another firefighter trying to save him was also burned on his hands, and a third firefighter did not realize that his ears were burned until he got back to the fire station.

About $25,000 worth of damage to the home was reported.

"The only thing I'm grateful for is no one was hurt," said Bertha Moreno. "You lose things, but they are just things. What were the most important were the pictures. Family pictures that we had for a long time. Everything else can be replaced."

At this point, the Corpus Christi Fire Department said the fire was accidentally started. The two sisters who live there will have to somehow move on and rebuild their lives.
