Demolition of the former Baptist Hospital Beaumont building

Posted: Updated:
Demolition of the old Baptist Hospital in Beaumont is underway to make room for a new H-E-B. The first phase of the project began Thursday. The second phase is scheduled to begin Monday. The second phase will consist of tearing down the main part of the building.

Inland Environments Ltd. says complete demolition could take 6 months.

The old Baptist Hospital building is a big part of Beaumont's history. Some tell 12 News HD the building is a part of their life, dating back to their childhood.

Danielle Hall's mother has worked at Baptist Hospital for nearly 40 years. She says she remembers going to the hospital when she was young with her dad and sister to visit her mom at work.

Now, Danielle, her mom, and her sister all work for the hospital at the new building.

Todd Senters, of Beaumont, tells 12 News HD "Baptist Hospital has been a big part of my family for many years going back decades. I've had family members work at the hospital, even an aunt who was the director of nurses. It has always been an important part of my life."

While the old walls are being torn down, the new hospital will continue to serve Southeast Texans.

The superintendent of Inland Environments Ltd. tells 12 News HD people can go by the construction site during business hours to take home a piece of brick from the old hospital building.
