Local pharmacies are now saying that they are ready to do battle against the flu outbreak in South Texas.
Places like Deleon's Pharmacy near Christus Spohn Shoreline said the need for Tamiflu has increased. It is a popular drug used to treat and shorten the time it takes to recover from the flu.
Pharmacists said the demand picked up at the beginning of the week, but customers should not worry about a shortage like other cities are reporting.
"All the pharmacies I've visited with over the phone seem to be meeting the demand pretty good," said Ron Garza, president of the Pharmaceutical Association. "Not concerned at this point, having enough Tamiflu in South Texas."
Garza said everyone should still take precautions to try to keep from getting the flu. Getting a flu shot and avoiding others who are sick are said to be two of the main precautions.
