We have all heard of the dangers of buying things online from strangers. It happened again over the weekend to two women, but this time the women were robbed at gunpoint.
The first red flag was the time of the arranged meeting, which was 2 a.m. Sunday.
The victims, two women in their mid-20s, wanted to buy a video game. According to police, the two women were contacted by a person named Manny on Facebook. Manny had agreed to sell them that video game.
They agreed to meet on the 1500 block of Dorado Street. When they arrived, Manny pulled out a firearm and robbed them. The women handed over the money and drove off. Luckily, no one was injured.
Police want other residents to take this as a lesson and be cautious when buying things online from Facebook or Craigslist.
"The best practice is to go to a public place," said Senior Officer Kirk Stowers of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "Don't go to their home. Don't invite them to your home. If they are strangers, you want to take those types of precautions."
The suspect was described as an 18 or 19-year old Hispanic male, standing about five-food eight and weighing over 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black baggy hoodie.
