Northbound, Southbound I-37 Shut Down from Nueces Bay to Buffalo
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Police have shut down portions of I-37 from Buffalo to Nueces Bay after a two-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler resulted in a downed traffic sign and a major fuel leak.
The accident happened just after noon on southbound I-37 near Port. A pickup truck was traveling on I-37 and lost control, hitting the back of an 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler hit a traffic sign, knocking it down in the process.
TxDOT is on the scene to pick up the downed street sign, which is blocking off I-37. They are estimating that the freeway will be shut down for a minimum of two hours.
HazMat crews were also called to the scene to clean up a large amount of diesel fuel that spilled from the 18-wheeler.
Traffic is being rerouted from the area, but drivers should expect delays when traveling in the vicinity of the accident, and are urged to use caution.
The driver of the pickup truck that caused the accident was cited.
