KINGSVILLE (Kiii News) -

Close to 1,000 local elementary school students in Kleberg County got a special treat at Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Thursday.

The university's men's and women's basketball programs invited the students to the first "Live the Dream - You Can Go to College!" game. The idea behind the event is to get the students to start thinking about college.

"Bringing them here to campus is really intriguing for them, you know," said Dynyel Miller, interim director of Title 5 programs at TAMUK. "They were all so excited when they first arrived here this morning. A lot of them are wearing Javelina t-shirts, and so that's fantastic, and so we're just here to help instill that in them."
