The City-County Public Health District has reported three confirmed flu-related deaths in Nueces County over the last two weeks.
According to officials, the deaths were in women between the ages of 65-85 years old.
Dr. William Burgin, Jr., Local Health Authority, states, "We extend our deepest sympathy to the families of the deceased."
Dr. William Burgin, Jr., local health authority, is advising that everyone protect themselves by getting the flu shot. In a press release from the City-County Health Department, Burgin said that the flu season is peaking early than it did last year.
There are some precautionary measures you can take to protect yourself and others:
- If you are sick, stay home to keep from spreading germs.
- Avoid close contact with sick people.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
