You could say it was like the first day of classes for the newest members of the Corpus Christi Independent School District board.
Trustees held their first official meeting of the new year on Monday, with the newest members, Hector Salinas, Jr., Janie Bell and former City Councilman John Marez.
"Obviously, I think we are on the track to continue to move forward to strengthen our schools. To strengthen the standards that we have, bring all our schools up in their testing scores, but make sure that our children leave our schools educated. That they are able to succeed in life, whether that be through technical schools," Marez said. "We want to make sure that they all succeed."
"Really, I guess more than anything else is that we really got to get focused on what we can do with what we have," Salinas, Jr., said. "The money has got to be there, but we got to do everything we can to help the teachers so they can get up there and do a great job."
If you would like to make plans to attend the meetings, as a rule, the CCISD trustees meet on the second and fourth Mondays of each month.
