Three people are recovering in the hospital after a five-vehicle accident on SPID near Weber that happened around 7:30 a.m. Friday.
Police said a 44-year old man driving west on SPID in a black truck entered the freeway from Weber when he crossed the solid white line and struck an unoccupied black Volkswagen. That car was parked between two solid white lines on the shoulder of the freeway.
The truck then spun and struck a gray Explorer on the slow lane of the freeway, causing it to crash into a gray van, which then struck a red Dodge Charger.
The gray Explorer rolled onto its side and stopped on the freeway.
"The sun sometimes blinds people. They need to understand that they need to slow down, and keep your distance, that way it is easier," said Lt. Carlos Rios of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "So if there is something ahead of you, you're going to be able to make a change of lanes."
A 13-year old boy, a 16-year old girl and a 45-year old woman were taken to the hospital. The unoccupied Volkswagen was impounded.
The 44-year old man driving the truck was given a ticket for making an unsafe lane change.
