CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - Something had to give Friday night between undefeated-in-district-foes Miller and Laredo Nixon, and ultimately it was the 22nd-ranked Bucs in a 57-52 loss to the Mustangs.
Miller trailed by as much as 15 in the 3rd quarter before rallying back to take a 48-47 lead with three minutes to go in the game. However, the Bucs missed several key free throws down the stretch and Nixon made Miller pay as Joey Pena made a runner with under a minute to go to put the Mustangs up five, which was the final margin of victory.
Miller drops to 6-1 in the District 31-4A standings while Laredo Nixon improves to 7-0 as the second round of district matchups begin Tuesday. The return game between the Bucs and Mustangs will be February 8th in Laredo.
