Corpus Christi Area Registers It's Fifth Flu Death

Corpus Christi (Kiii News) - This information is from the local health department:

FIFTH FLU RELATED DEATH CONFIRMED BY HEALTH DISTRICT

The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District reports they have received confirmation of a fifth flu related death in Nueces County.

The flu related death was confirmed today of a female between the ages of 70-80 years of age. Patient was admitted to a local hospital two weeks ago and had a history of diabetes.

For confidentially and personal privacy reasons the Health District will not be releasing or confirming any additional identifying information.

Flu season is at its peak according to Dr. William, Burgin, Jr., Local Health Authority. Dr. Burgin advises residents to protect themselves against the flu by getting the flu shot and social distancing when possible.

CDC continues to recommend antiviral medications for treatment of seasonal influenza.

Residents are also being advised to take precautionary measures to keep from spreading germs:

 

* If you are sick, stay home to keep from getting others sick.

* Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

* Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough.

* Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub.
