Local Red Cross Chapter in Need of Funding, Volunteers

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

This has been a very busy season for first responders when it comes to fires, and the local chapter of the American Red Cross is also in need of help.

"We basically need funding," said Danny Resendez of the Red Cross. "We don't rely on government funding to provide the assistance that we provide."

Resendez said the demand for assistance has put a strain on the chapter's budget. Over the last few days, the American Red Cross has helped 13 victims who lost their homes to fire. Most recently on Tuesday, they helped a family in Sinton, and a family of 10 in Corpus Christi. That assistance included supplying the families with food, clothing and temporary housing.

Another commodity the organization is in need of are volunteers.

"We need people that have time, that are retired or simply have time to give to the Red Cross," Resendez said. "They come in, get trained. We get them the training they need to assist the assistance needs of disaster clients."

To help, you can make a financial donation to the American Red Cross by visiting www.redcross.org, or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
