San Diego City Council Votes to Allow 8-Liner Game Rooms

SAN DIEGO (Kiii News) -

San Diego City Council voted to allow 8-liner gaming in their city, even though the Duval County Sheriff announced back in September that he was cracking down on the game rooms.

After meeting behind closed doors to discuss the matter on Wednesday, Council members voted to allow 8-liners to operate in the city limits. They said the driving reason behind the approval was to help increase revenue for the City.

"Everybody's been very up front about their approval for the ordinance, and again, because of our financial situation, we're looking at ways to kind of supplement our revenues," San Diego Mayor Ruperto Canales said.

Of course, to stay in compliance with state law, the machines cannot pay out in cash or anything of value.

In the meantime, Duval County Sheriff Romeo Ramirez said that he will go after those establishments if they violate state law.
