Students to Take Leadership Roles in Campus Crime Stoppers

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

They may be young, but the Corpus Christi Police Department is giving Corpus Christi Independent School District students an extra tool to fight crimes on campus.

The plan is to create an organized body to run their Campus Crime Stoppers program.

"It's students that take ownership of the Crime Stoppers program," CCPD Officer Kirk Stowers said. "They review the tips that were called in to the campus, and they approve those awards."

Stowers, who helps run the Crime Stoppers program, said that students can also take charge of spreading the word and getting other students to report crime on their campus. He hopes that, by the end of the year, for each middle school and high school to have a student led board.

Campus Crime Stoppers, which was first implemented in the CCISD in 1999, has become an important tool in the battle against crime inside our schools.
