CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Dozens marched on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Thursday morning in remembrance of the late civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Members of the Islander Cultural Alliance led the celebration. They said the march is a way to spread cultural diversity around the campus.

The group invited children from the Early Childhood Development Center on campus to take part in the march. The kids held signs they made with inspirational messages.

"People used to treat people differently and rudely, so our posters are about changing that," 11-year old Victoria said.

"Just because they are mean to you, you can still be friends with them, and it doesn't matter about skin color because we're all equal," 11-year old Abigail said.

The event kicks off a series of events for Black History Month on the TAMUCC campus.
