Fender Bender Leads to Accident with Cargo Truck on SPID

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A two-car accident on the freeway led to another accident involving a cargo truck just before 10 a.m. Friday on the eastbound side of SPID, between Carroll Lane and Weber.

Police said it started with a fender bender. When traffic came to a halt, the driver of a red Jeep could not slow down in time and slammed into a white car, which then slammed into a cargo truck.

"You've got to pay attention," said Lt. Carlos Rios of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "You have to leave enough space in between, and in this case there was an accident."

A five-year old girl was injured and had to be transported to Driscoll Children's Hospital. She is expected to be okay.

The driver of the red Jeep will face charges of failing to control speed.
