CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Following a wave of retirements last Friday, six senior officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department were promoted to the rank of lieutenant on Monday.

Friends and family were in attendance as the senior officers were promoted during a ceremony Monday morning at police headquarters downtown.

For those officers who were promoted, it marks a major milestone in their careers. They expressed joy of the culmination of hard work and extra studying paying off.

"It's been 12 years in the making," Lt. Jay Clement said. "I'm really looking forward to hitting the streets and not only helping with the troops, but leading the department to a new future. It's really exciting. I can't wait."

"I'm from Corpus and my family lives here and in the community, and I want to take care of my family as well as the community," Lt. Emilio Villarreal said. "They kind of go hand in hand."

From everyone here at Kiii-TV, congratulations to all the newly promoted officers and their families.
