Officers with the Alice Police Department learned how to use a new high tech means of writing citations: Motorola Ticket Writers.
The devices are able to scan a driver's license, and scan the barcode on a motor vehicle inspection sticker. It then connects to a small printer and prints out a ticket. It is supposed to make the process easier for police officers and court clerks.
"They won't have to enter the citations manually. They'll just have to import the citations, and they'll already be there in our software," Municipal Court Manager JoAnn Ramon said. "They won't have to sit there and decipher the officer's handwriting, or the defendants handwriting. Plus, when the officer makes the traffic stop, they swipe the driver's license and it will automatically check for warrants, if somebody has a warrant, so that will help out a lot also."
The Alice Police Department said it should be implementing the new technology within a week, once all officers have been trained on how to use them.
