FREER (Kiii News) -

There was an explosion just south of Freer Thursday afternoon following a collision between two 18-wheelers that occurred just before 3:30 p.m. on Highway 16.

The Department of Public Safety said a big rig hauling bricks was trying to turn onto a private road when it was struck by another big rig that was, fortunately, hauling nothing. The impact caused both trucks to catch fire.

One driver was sent to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital via HALO Flight with burns to his hands and face. The other driver was not hurt in the accident.
