The City of Temple settled on a 7.25 million dollar lawsuit after almost two years.
The lawsuit was filed after companies that built the new police headquarter failed to fix major problems in the building.
Back in 2005 the city of temple spent 10-million dollars on a brand new police station.
But less than four years later Chief of Police Gary Smith said some expensive and unwanted issues came creeping in.
"We had some mechanical issues with the building we had to work through and of course the cost were more than we had anticipated," said Smith.
Along with mold that threatened the health of anyone who entered the building.
"We filed our law suit in September of 2010, but only after our architect, our engineer, and contractors and insurance companies cold not make the repairs themselves or would not make the repairs themselves," said Temple City Manager David Blackburn.
With more than 20 defendants involved in the lawsuit, an agreement wasn't going to be made anytime soon.
And in order to keep the police headquarters up and running, the city was forced to use tax dollars for a five point three million dollar renovation of the building.
Now the city wants that money back.
"The city then participated in a court appointed medication over the past several months," said Blackburn.
And finally during a city council meeting, a settlement was reached.
Seven point two five million dollars will be paid to the city.
"That money will be used to retire the debt that was issued to finance the renovations on the police facility," said Blackburn.
Chief Smith said having his team in a safe building allows them to focus on what's most important serving and protecting their community.
"We feel very good it good to have this behind us so that we can move forward with our business," said Smith.
Along with covering the cost of the renovation, the settlement will also go to cover attorney's fees and court costs.
