CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Jumping rope is a great way to stay in shape, and as it turns out, it's a great way to raise money as well.

On Friday, the students at Wood River Elementary were honored for raising over $33,000 for the American Heart Association. It was all part of a campaign put on by the organization called Jump Rope for Heart.

The kids went out and got donations from the community, and on Friday they got to celebrate all their hard work with a jump rope contest.

"From what I understand, we've raised more money than any other school in Texas," said Charla Hatfield, a coach at Wood River Elementary. "For sure South Texas."

"Wood River did an amazing job, and their kids are a bunch of heart heroes," said Samantha Nunez of the American Heart Association.

One of the students actually raised $8,000 all on their own.

Kiii News sends a big congratulations to all the students at Wood River Elementary for a job well done.
