Family left with questions following Algerian hostage crisis

The brother of Victor Lovelady, the Nederland Native killed in the Algerian hostage crisis, spoke exclusively with 12News about the ongoing FBI investigation into what led up to the hostage seizure of the gas field facility and the killing of three Americans including Lovelady.

"My brother simply went to work, make a living for his family and got killed by terrorists, it's not right," Mike Lovelady said of his brother Victor.

Almost one month ago Mike Lovelady lost the man he grew up with as a child, his brother Victor.

He knew of his families loss almost immediately but Lovelady says the flow of information has since stopped.

"Almost zero communication from the higher offices. We haven't heard anything. That's what's frustrating about the whole deal. I don't want these people to be forgotten," Lovelady said.

Media was recently allowed to tour the gas plant where Victor Lovelady and two other Americans were killed during a four day siege in January.

37 total foreign hostages were killed, along with 29 militants three were captured but the man who claims responsibility for the attack remains at large.

The man known as the One-Eyed Jihadist, Mokhter Belmokther.

"We heard he was the one who gave the order to kill the hostages, I think if we don't stop him terrorism is going to continue," Lovelady said of the terrorist.

If the Lovelady's can't get the specific details they feel they and the rest of the U.S. should at least know that the government isn't giving up.

"We're concerned, we don't want this to go away. This is I think the new face of terrorism and as a government we need to stay on top of it," Lovelady said.

12News called both the Beaumont and Washington FBI offices but were unable to get comment on this story.
