Crackdown on Cars Blocking Sidewalks Shows Good Results
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Since the police crackdown initiative targeting drivers who block sidewalks began about six months ago, more than 900 tickets have been handed out.
However, in the last three months, there have only been 68 tickets. Police said it is clear that people are changing their behavior, and they say it is all about public safety.
"It's a quality of life issue too," said Captain Tim Wilson of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "People who are handicapped walking in a neighborhood, using wheelchairs, people out for a walk in the evening, have to go walk in the street to get around the vehicles."
Police said they will continue to cite people who block sidewalks and park the wrong way on a street. It is a ticket that costs around $40.
