Construction on Schlitterbahn Water Park Begins

Posted: Updated:

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Island Residents are already seeing construction activity happening on the new multi-million dollar water park, Schlitterbahn.  Saturday, our Anayeli Ruiz spoke with the water park's CEO Jeff Henry who she found in the drivers seat of a bulldozer.  Henry was moving dirt in order to clear a path for the new project.  Henry said, "all of us in the family we still work.  We are all engaged in the company and on the weekend we have the choice to play golf or we could go dig dirt and I prefer to dig dirt."  The 65-acre Schlitterbahn will be located on Padre Island at the sight of the Padre Isles Country Club.  For the next few months crews will be excavating the area.  In about six months is when you will actually see some development above ground. Henry says before that, crews will have to work on water, sewer and other utilities.
