CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

High winds are being blamed for several power outages across the Coastal Bend, including one right behind Carroll High School, on the 2700 block of Tiger Lane.

The high winds caused a tree to brush up against a power line, releasing sparks that caused a small fire. It is the type of incident that kept firefighters very busy on Monday.

"Trees that haven't been kept. Yards that haven't been kept up. High weeds. High winds, and the trees causing a lot of sparks and causing a lot of grass fires," said Captain Joseph Roth of the Corpus Christi Fire Department.

American Electric Power was notified of the problem and responded soon after firefighters arrived. They said that the damage was limited to a small corner of a backyard, which was said to be minimal.
