The Southern California University of Health Sciences was founded in 1911 as one of the first institutions in the United States with a dedicated focus on chiropractic, acupuncture and health sciences. The school has become a premier university preparing the next generation of health practitioners in these disciplines. Acupuncture and chiropractic are among the mostly widely integrated forms of alternative medicine and embraced by millions of patients across North America.

Southern California University of Health Sciences is the only alternative medicine university fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), which equates the school's educational quality with other large universities such as Stanford, UCLA, and UC Berkeley. SCU embraces an evidence-based FLEX curriculum that is competency-guided, case-oriented, subject-integrated, and designed to meet the stringent demands of today's student. An innovative dual degree program enables a student to earn a Doctor of Chiropractic and Masters Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in just 4 years. SCU emphasizes business leadership, entrepreneurial skills, and clinical expertise founded on principles of interactive hands-on learning with significant laboratory exposure that includes on-site clinical training in the SCU Community Health Center.

"Our comprehensive clinical education develops the essential knowledge, skills and competencies in our students to become excellent practitioners of chiropractic, acupuncture and oriental medicine," says SCU President Dr. John Scaringe. "A key facet of our chiropractic program provides hands on experience as early in the curriculum as possible. This includes adjusting and examination skills. In addition, early observation in the clinic and field doctor's offices are a hallmark of the SCU curriculum. Our clinical acupuncture education develops the essential knowledge, skills and competencies in our students to become excellent AOM practitioners. These graduate programs are complemented by clinical rotations throughout our network of Clinics and Centers of Excellence which provides a broad spectrum of treatment options including Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Chiropractic, Sports Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, and Rehabilitation. We invite anyone considering a career in these areas to attend our Campus Preview Day to learn more about the innovative and flexible education options available to students at SCU!"
