Students from Virginia Help Habitat for Humanities in Corpus
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Nine student athletes are enjoying their first visit to the Coastal Bend by helping out some families in need.
Those athletes, along with a teacher from Norfolk State University in Virginia, were looking for a city near the beach to lend a helping hand. It's part of their collegiate challenge event, and they chose to help Habitat for Humanities here in Corpus Christi.
The students are spending the week helping build homes for families in need of affordable housing.
For the past 24 years, volunteers have helped 43 families in need become owners of new homes, and Habitat leaders said that what the students lack in construction skills is more than made up for by their level of enthusiasm.
Not only do the students donate their Spring Break to helping others, but they pay for the privilege as well, spending $150 each to help the local Habitat affiliate.
