2013 Season to Kick Off with The Quail Motorcycle Gathering, Honoring 'Legends of the Sport' and Featuring Motorcycling Legend Wayne Rainey
CARMEL, Calif., March 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Quail Lodge & Golf Club today shared its 2013 lineup of motorsports events, organized by The Peninsula Signature Events, a division of The Peninsula Hotels. The events calendar will commence on Friday, May 3, 2013 with The Quail Ride, a 100-mile motorcycle journey throughout the Monterey Peninsula. On Saturday, May 4, 2013 The Quail Motorcycle Gathering, a day-long event celebrating motorcycling heritage and performance, will feature special guest and racing legend Wayne Rainey. The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, now in its 11th year, will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013. The event will celebrate 100 years of Aston Martin and feature a Retrospective of Automobili Lamborghini Celebrating 50 Years, as well as A Tribute to the California Mille In Honor of Martin Swig and Peter Brock Designs. Bonhams' 16th annual motorcar auction will also be held in conjunction with The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering this year.
The Peninsula Signature Events also has announced the appointment of Gordon McCall as Director of Motorsports. After 10 successful years as lead consultant on The Peninsula Signature Events, McCall will assume a full-time position overseeing the acclaimed series of motorsports gatherings.

As an esteemed figure in the international motorsports community, McCall has been a founder and key influencer of prestigious gatherings of motorsports enthusiasts. An avid classic car and motorcycle aficionado himself, McCall served as a judge and field coordinator for the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance for more than 25 years. With his wife Molly, he founded the annual Jet Center Motorworks Revival, a highlight of Monterey Car Week, more than 20 years ago.

Launched in 2009, The Quail Motorcycle Gathering honors both pre- and post-war eras of the world's finest sports and racing bikes, and is held each May at Carmel's renowned Quail Lodge & Golf Club, which will reopen its hotel and unveil a $28 million resort-wide renovation on March 26, 2013.
The Quail Motorcycle Gathering will celebrate its fifth anniversary by introducing the "Legends of the Sport" series, honoring one seminal figure in the sport each year. Wayne Rainey, a top World Championship 500cc Grand Prix rider who has three consecutive World Championships to his name, will be recognized this year. Rainey won his titles in 1990, 1991 and 1992 while riding for Yamaha. Rainey also won two U.S. Superbike Championships in 1983 and 1987.
The Quail Marketplace, a for-sale-by-owner event, also will take place at The Quail Motorcycle Gathering for its second year in 2013. The marketplace offers guests an opportunity to purchase directly from other motorsports enthusiasts.
Participation in The Quail Motorcycle Gathering as an entrant is $120, and includes two tickets, gourmet lunch, and an event gift bag.
