ROCKPORT (Kiii News) -
The City of Rockport is moving forward with a major tree removal project; particularly, the Chinese Tallow trees.
It was last week that the Rockport City Council approved the removal of the trees, despite some residents' arguments that the trees were part of Rockport's natural habitat and should remain.
"They're very aggressive," Rockport City Manager Kevin Carruth said. "They over time will choke out all of the other vegetation, and basically take over everything."
The removal is part of a grant from the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries program.
