Islanders Softball Splits DH, Schwirtlich Sisters Return to Corpus Christi

Posted: Updated:

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - It was a split crowd Saturday at Chapman Field for the Islanders' softball double-header with Houston Baptist, and the play on the field was also a split.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won the first game 4-3 on a walk-off single by sophomore Lindsey Lyles while Southland Conference newcomer Houston Baptist won game two 12-4.

The Huskies had a contingency of their own on hand thanks to the return of former Tuloso-Midway Cherokee sisters Kirsten and Lauren Schwirtlich who were reunited this season at HBU. Kirsten is in her freshman season and Lauren joined her sister on the team after leaving Texas A&M following the 2011 season. The sisters combined for five total hits in Saturday's double-header against the Islanders.
