One in jail after weekend police chase in Beaumont

BEAUMONT -

A Beaumont police spokesperson told 12News that a man is in jail after he led officers on a chase through the city over the weekend.

The spokesperson said dispatch received a call around 3:30 a.m. saying the man's pickup was blocking the driveway of the McDonalds restaurant on the Interstate 10 service road. When officers confronted him, he fled, driving down Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, to 11th Street and onto Eastex Freeway.

A 12News photographer caught part of the pursuit as the driver sped along Eastex.

The chase came to a stop at the Texaco on Lucas.

A police spokesperson said the man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest in a motor vehicle.

As of Monday morning the man's name was not released.
