CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Corpus Christi firefighters were busy battling a house fire Monday night on the westside of town.
"First unit on scene was Rescue 3. They got here and they reported they had heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence," said Battalion Chief Frank Rodriguez of the Corpus Christi Fire Department.
The fire was at a home on the 1200 block of Espinosa near Morgan, and started shortly before midnight. Crews had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes, but the home was a total loss.
"The house did sustain quite a bit of fire damage," Rodriguez said. "It is not livable at this point, and we're not sure exactly what the cause is yet."
A woman who was inside the home was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation as a precaution.
