UPDATE (KCEN) -- Both lanes of I-35 are now open after the accident earlier this morning that shut the highway down.

UPDATE (KCEN) -- The left lane of I-35 is now open after an accident involving two semi trucks shut down the highway earlier this morning.

TxDOT expects the right lane to be opened within the hour. Traffic is beginning to flow better through the area but there is still a backup.

(KCEN) -- An accident on I-35 at exit 314 in Eddy has the highway closed.

According to TxDOT, two semi trucks were involved in the accident and were on fire at one point. The semis landed against a concrete barrier in a construction zone.

The accident happened before 7 this morning and TxDOT estimated it would take about 3 hours to clear, but the accident is still being cleaned up.

Traffic is backed up on the highway for about 5 miles. All vehicles are being diverted off the highway at exit 314.

Anyone planning on driving through the area is advised to take alternate routes.
