Local Resident Points Out Areas of ADA Non-Compliance
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
On the island, some of the new construction projects are not in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and some citizens are complaining.
Bob Gramer says he has discovered that some publicly funded construction projects are not handicapped accessible.
Those projects include new boat docks along Packary Channel and near Billings and Clem.
City Engineer Dan Biles says he believes it is just a case of a misunderstanding.
"It is a dirt parking lot and that's all GLO owned land. State owned land so that's not ADA compliant, but the boat ramps themselves are," Biles said. "So, it's just some misunderstanding about what we've done, what we own and what we're going to do in the future."
Biles says the city wants to hear from any citizen who believes there may be a problem so the city can make sure it's fixed.
