UPDATE: Suspect in Officer-Involved Shooting in Waco Identified

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- One man has died following an officer involved shooting in Waco, Monday afternoon.

U.S. Marshals received a tip about the man's location and the vehicle he was driving.

The suspect, 30-year-old Transcini Richerson, was wanted for assault strangulation and parole violation. Marshals considered him to be armed and dangerous and had been arrested previously for assaulting a police officer and evading arrest, as well as possession of drugs and deadly conduct.

When Marshals located and approached Richerson's vehicle, the suspect refused to show his hands as officers told him to do. Richerson continued to refuse and then reached down, which is when a Marshal shot the suspect in defense of himself and the other officers.

Richerson was taken to Hillcrest Hospital and later died from his wounds.

His family has been notified.

The Waco Police Department's Special Crimes unit is investigating the incident.
