Accident Claims the Lives of Two People on U.S. Highway 281

An accident this weekend on U.S. Highway 281 and CR 40, five miles west of Ben Bolt, claimed the lives of two people.

It happened at around 11:45 p.m. Saturday. Department of Public Safety officials said the driver of a 1997 Ford Explorer over corrected and rolled the vehicle several times.

That driver, 20-year old Carlie Michelle Marquez, and the passenger, 16-year old Heather Monique Marquez, were both ejected from the vehicle and killed at the scene.

An 18-year old man who was sitting in the backseat was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice with two broken legs. A two-year old girl was taken to the hospital with lacerations and contusions.

There was another child in the vehicle who was not injured.
