Police Cruisers Collide while Responding to DWI Incident
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Two Corpus Christi police officers are expected to be back on the streets after being involved in an overnight crash.
The collision happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Agnes and Staples. Investigators said both officers were responding to a call when they ran into each other in their police cruisers.
"Obviously our cars have black boxes, so we need to pull info of the boxes, but the main thing is that our officers are okay," said Lt. William Broyles of the Corpus Christi Police Department.
The front end of one unit was partially ripped off, and the second unit suffered minor rear-end damage.
Meanwhile, officers pulled over and arrested 20-year old Christian Martinez and 29-year old Julia Elizondo at the intersection of Staples and Agnes.
Investigators said Martinez showed suspicious behavior towards a CCPD officer that pulled them over, which prompted the call for emergency backup.
Martinez was charged with DWI. Officers also discovered synthetic marijuana inside their truck.
