High-speed chase through Beaumont ends in Vidor, cocaine found in car

SOUTHEAST TEXAS -

Deputies say they found around two pounds of cocaine in a car after a driver refused to pull over and sparked a high-speed chase through Beaumont Thursday morning.  The chase ended in Vidor after the driver jumped out of the car near Highway 12.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Rod Carroll spoke with 12News just after the chase ended.  He said the Sheriff's Office tried to pull over a car around 9:40 a.m. near Walden Road in Beaumont after the driver committed a traffic violation.  The driver refused to stop and a chase began.

The chase went eastbound as the driver headed the wrong way in the westbound service road.  The driver eventually crossed over and got into the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10.  The chase went through Beaumont and into Orange County.

The driver got onto the service road near Highway 12 in Vidor, tried to make a U-turn and the car smashed into a concrete pillar of the overpass. Deputies say the driver jumped out of the car and tried to flee on foot.

A passenger in the car broke his right thigh bone in the accident and immediately taken into custody.

The driver was quickly caught after a short foot chase and was also taken into custody.

Officers say they found just over 2 pounds of cocaine inside the car.

Carroll told 12News that the two men are brothers from Florida. They are both being treated for minor injuries at Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth at this time. Their names will be released as soon as they are arraigned, and Carroll says they will be booked in the Jefferson County Jail as soon as they are released from the hospital.

Both face felony charges for drug possession and evading arrest.
