A cell phone was at the center of an accident Friday afternoon on SPID, bringing traffic to a halt.
"We had somebody that looked down at their phone real quick," said Carl Knapick of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "It was ringing and when they looked back up, the traffic had come to a stop and they were not able to come to a stop in time."
The accident happened just after 2 p.m. near the Weber exit on the eastbound side of the expressway. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt.
The driver who caused the collision was cited for speeding.
