Flags Outside of Courthouse for Child Abuse Prevention Month
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
212 flags were places outside of the Nueces County Courthouse on Monday, each one symbolizing a child victim of abuse.
April 1 marked "Go Blue Day," the official start to a month-long observation of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
"Our primary focus is awareness," said Al Cardenas of Child Protective Services. "We want people to know that child abuse and neglect does occur, and it's important that we as members of the community make every effort to try to help families. To help them become better parents and try to prevent the abuse of children."
Last year, in Nueces County alone, CPS investigated more than 3,000 cases of suspected child abuse. Of those, more than 1,000 were confirmed to be cases of abuse and neglect.
