LAWTON, OK (Javelinas Athletics) - The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team scored seven runs in the first four innings and eight in the final pounding out a season-high 23 hits as the Javelinas earned a series split with a 15- 2 win over Cameron on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Javelinas even their Lone Star Conference record at 8-8 and moved to 25-12 overall Cameron moves to 10-22 overall and 4-12 in the league. After dropping the first two games of the series, Kingsville outscored the hosts 22-6 in the final two games.
Seven of nine Javelina starting hitters had multiple hits and 13 total had at least one in the game. Cash Barker and Clint Wallace led the Javelinas with three RBI apiece. Barker was 3-for-4, while Clint Wallace came off the bench with a 3-run triple.
In all, Kingsville had four extra base hits including Wallace's triple. James Black had a solo home run for his second blast of the year, and Trent Wagner had a pinch-hit triple in the eighth to drive in a run. Ben Villafuerte scored three runs and Wagner crossed the plate twice with 12 Hoggies in all crossing plate.
Matt Rhodes was the beneficiary of all the runs. The junior improved to 4-1 on the year as he allowed two runs with one earned on nine hits in 6-1/3 innings. He fanned four while walking just one. Tres Tyler tossed 1-2/3 innings of scoreless baseball, while Denver Diefenbach tossed a hitless ninth.
Three Aggie pitchers allowed five runs apiece with Tim Eason (0-1) taking the loss.
The Javelinas return home to host West Texas A&M this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The first game on Friday is at 6 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday's action beginning at 1 p.m.
