Beaumont man indicted after police say dispute over cell phone turned deadly
A 21-year-old Beaumont man has been indicted on accusations that he caused an accident on Dowlen Road that killed an 88-year-old woman.
Police say the accident happened because of a dispute over a cell phone.
A Jefferson County Grand Jury Thursday handed up the indictment against Courtland Bobenoaux.
Police say Bobenoaux wanted to turn around to get a cell phone he had forgotten. He is accused of grabbing the steering wheel leading to an accident that killed Vallie Wilkinson and injured another woman.
Bobenoaux faces charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He's in the Jefferson county jail on bonds totaling $95,000.
