City Parks Department Set to Fill Two Public Pools with Sand
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Two city pools are about to be filled with sand as the City of Corpus Christi looks to cut costs.
The Joe Garza Swimming Pool off Highland has been turned into a cesspool since the City closed the neighborhood pool last year. The same happened to the Parker Pool in Flour Bluff this year. Officials said it leaks and needs over $350,000 in repairs.
The City Parks Department said that is too costly of a proposition, since only about 3,600 people use the pool each year.
"We're hoping at some point that the economy turns around and we're able to reopen these facilities, and give people the opportunity to swim again," Assistant Parks Director Stacie Talbert said.
Both pools are set to be filled in with sand over the next week or so.
