First Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle Nest Found on Texas Coastline

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Donna Shaver with the National Seashore confirmed that two turtles were discovered laying eggs along our coastline.

They were found about 40 miles down the shoreline from Park Headquarters. Also, two other Kemp's Ridley turtles turned up on South Padre Island on Thursday.

Tracks from another nesting of Kemp's were also found on Boca Chica Beach, which is east of Brownsville. Neither the turtle who left the tracks nor the eggs researchers believed she left behind have been seen.

Remember to be careful while driving along the beach or moving around in the dunes.

The turtles could end up anywhere along our coast, and if you do spot one, you are urged to call the Hatchling Hotline at 361-949-7163.
