Local Groups Accepting Donations for Community of West, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It's the thought that counts, and that's what some caring Corpus Christi residents are saying about their efforts to help the victims of the explosion in West, Texas.

There are several organizations and individuals doing what they can to help the victims of that devastation.

Corpus Christi residents and businesses came together to make a difference on Friday. At the Laguna Shores Apartments in Flour Bluff, the apartment manager said donations from local citizens helped make some units available to those who need a place to stay.

"We're a nonprofit organization and we receive donations from folks to do this," said George Hodge, executive director of Advance Housing Corp. "We have an in-house program and that's what the in-house program actually does. It allows us to set aside funds to help people in need."

"It's just something that we wouldn't want to be in their shoes, and if we were, we hope somebody would come to get together and help us," said DJ Ray Ray of Magic Q 104.9. "We just feel there's a need to get together and just help them out."

The Corpus Christi radio station, Magic Q 104.9, will be accepting donations at the Boost Store on Ayers until 8 p.m. Friday. They will be delivering the times to the affected area Saturday morning.
