Hooks Get Combined Shutout in Win Over Frisco

Posted: Updated:

CORPUS CHRISTI (CC Hooks) - Dominant pitching by David Martinez and Asher Wojciechowski and George Springer's solo bomb over the left-center field bullpen propelled Corpus Christi to a 1-0 decision over Frisco Saturday before 6,045 at Whataburger Field.

At 1:52, it was the shortest nine-inning game in Hooks history.

With one gone in the seventh, Springer's fourth homer came on a 2-1 fastball from Carlos Pimentel.

Martinez and Pimentel set a quick pace early, as the first three innings were played in 35 minutes. Corpus Christi shortstop Ben Orloff posted a first-inning bunt single, the only hit of the first five frames. Drew Muren's sixth-inning single to deep short stayed in the infield as well.

Martinez logged five perfect innings and 60 pitches (36 strikes) before exiting as part of parent club Houston's prescribed pitching limit. He struck out three before turning the game over to Wojciechowski (2-0), who went the rest of the way. The Citadel product, who permitted two hits and struck out five, has not given up a run in four 2013 appearances, a span of 18 innings.

Wojciechowski ran the string to 20 up, 20 down before Jared Hoying lined a 1-2 offering into right-center for a double.

Pimentel (2-1) called it a night after seven innings, 86 pitches, three hits, a walk and seven strikeouts.

Hoying owns an eight-game hitting streak.

Sunday is H-E-B Kids Day, so all children run the bases postgame. Fans also enjoy a tribute to Elvis Presley, presented by CC PATCH. Matt Heidenreich (1-1) pitches for the Hooks vs. southpaw Ryan Feierabend (0-1) at 1:05 in the series and homestand finale.
