Students Take Part in Green Activities to Celebrate Earth Day

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Monday was Earth Day, and to help mark the occasion members of our community held green activities and planting events.

The Oveal Williams Senior Living Center on Martin Luther King Boulevard hosted some special youngsters from the Washington Head Start Program for a community gardening event.

With the help of the City's Senior Community Services Department and the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service, the kids hit the garden to plant some vegetables. The hope is that the lesson will help the youngsters eat healthier as they go trough life.

Also celebrating Earth Day were the folks over at Del Mar College's East Campus. The school, along with the Corpus Christi Independent School District Collegiate High School on campus, hosted a number of green activities, including a tree planting in front of the Garcia Science Building and cleanup effort throughout the campus.

"I think that it's good to keep in mind that the environment needs care periodically, and it can be acquired through tree planting like this or picking up trash," said Jim Klein of Del Mar College. "Things of that nature as well."

Monday was the 43rd year for Earth Day.
